When I Don't Know What to Pray

Today someone brought encouragement from Romans 8:26:

"And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how
to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings
too deep for words." (NASB)

It's encouraging to know that our prayers are being conveyed to God by the Spirit, Who truly knows what we need!

This week, Hurricane Gustav and the Republican National Convention provide us with many needs that can springboard our prayers. What a God... Who is moved by the requests that we bring to Him!

Does Prayer Change Things?

No.

God changes things. How grateful I am that He stoops to hear my prayer and humbles Himself to behold the things that are on the earth (Psalm 113:6)!

"I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry." Psalm 40:1

This week, the Democratic National Convention should remind us to pray. The elections draw near and God is the only One Who can truly bring change in America!

What's New?

So often, my intercession is based on things that I have seen in the past. I ask God to perform acts that He has done before, whether for me or others. Rarely am I bold enough to ask for something unheard of. Rarely do I stretch my mind to imagine what God could do, and might do if only I asked!

"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." Isaiah 43:19

Need-Driven Prayer

Today I was challenged with this consideration: my prayers may be inconsistent, hypocritical, and meaningless because I do not recognize my needs. Whether it is realized or not, "we're always in trouble." I was convicted of demonstrating arrogance by neglecting prayer... as if I am capable of effecting change myself!
